Boss: Doug, you're not to go into personal time right off the bat when you arrive. That's work avoidance. You've been here almost ten minutes and haven't even started yet. Me: I had to use the facilities. Boss: If you need personal time before you start work then you should get here early. Me: Only I didn't get here early today, I got here right on time, and then I had to...use the restroom. Boss: You've been here almost ten minutes and haven't taken a single call. Me: ....
(later the boss apologized for his tone but reiterated the company policy on 'personal time')

WOW.
Perhaps he should pay for a headset for you so that you can take calls while you are using the facilities. I mean, think of all the calls you aren't taking every time you're in there!!!
I just can't imagine starting that conversation with another human. How do they do it?
"Work Avoidance" That's awful. Then again, it's what I'm probably doing right now.
Oh for the love of God! There are times when I'm really, really glad I'm a public employee.
when I worked at earthlink doing Cserve, we had to ask permission to stop fielding calls long enough to use the bathroom, and if the Q was red, no one would get it... I so wanted to IWWize that shit hole but no one I talked to seemed to get the benefits that it would bring...
Oh and if I had had clocked in and immediately gone to the bathroom I would have gotten written up, and if I had clocked in 10 minutes late because of going to the bathroom, same deal...
Call centers are bad bad places...

I'm on a temp assignment in a call center right now, and I feel your pain. Except that we hardly get any calls and I've managed to read an entire book every day the last week.
New plan: 1. Arrive at work on time 2. Take one phone call 3. Go to the bathroom after the one phone call, or if the phone call is too long, accidentally get disconnected, and then go to the bathroom. 4. Or, bring a portapotty and put it in your cubicle. Or a potted plant; I think things are easier for men.
there are profits to be made man! what were you thinking!
