Can you name a living Marxist economists or theorist? |
I can name three off the top of my head, without recourse to Google: Walter Daum, Ahmet Tonak, Robin Murray.
I can't believe I forgot Walter Daum. I was trying to name one, and I was all, like, "Ernest Mandel? No, dead. Tony Cliff? No, dead. Shit...Hmm...."
Eric Hobsbawm - admittedly he's pretty old. Habermas?
Hi, I feel like Samir Amin would be the pat answer. Mieville's Between Equal Rights certainly puts him on the list. Marxist Lit Crit is my background. Post-Derrida, I follow the ones who study the Gothic and hauntology, but I can't think of anyone that is a must read. Maybe Fred Botting. Terry Eagleton is the poster-child (of those still living), but he was cooler long ago. Adrianne Rich, when she writes Marxist Lit Crit, is great. Julia Kristeva would probably not claim Marx like she once did, but the early work is still astounding. Eventually my list would devolve into people like Michael du Plessis, who I think is still at USC. The references for this essay are a fun mix of where gothic, hauntology, Marxism and art intersect: http://www.newmappings.net/archives/papers/hauntologies
Hmm, this is in a way asking if you can name a Freudian psychologist, I mean, social theory can't get away from standing on the back of Marx.
But, to answer your question, the three theorists that pop into my head are Donna Haraway, Emmanuel Wallerstein, and Guyatri Spivak.
A professor at UMass Boston by the name of Arthur MacEwan.
Dumbshit. Stupid Motherfucker and That Old Asshole Creep.
That's at least what I call them. They are not as obnoxious as the Free Market Extremists but that's only because they are so sad.
You do understand that after the revolution I'll be obligated to report you to the authorities as another one in need of reeducation, don't you?
